An eyewitness who preferred anonymity said that one of his friends challenged them saying that anybody who could drink an entire bottle of a local dry gin would be given N5,000.

The deceased who hailed from Umu Opu Quarters of the community accepted the challenge and acted accordingly.

It was reported that Mr. Oluchukwu was bombarded with praises after he had received the said amount at the party.

“During the party, one of his friends challenged them, saying anyone that can finish a bottle of ‘Kai Kai’ in a gulp will receive the sum of N5,000.

Agu Oluchukwu accepted the challenge. He drank it as demanded and was praised by everyone. He was then, given the N5,000.”

It was verified that Mr. Oluchukwu was staggering while on his way home before he fell and lost consciousness.

Every effort to resuscitate him yielded no result as he gave up to ghost on the way to the hospital.

It was, however, not clear if harmful substances had been added into the local dry gin before he consumed it.
