Naira Scarcity: Youths Protest In Edo, Oyo, Set Banks Ablaze In Delta
Afimag.com –
Violent protests have broken out in various parts of the state following the scarcity of old and new Naira notes fashioned out by implementation of CBN cashless policy.
The youths went on rampage, wielding matchetes, wood, iron and various other dangerous objects in Edo, Oyo and Warri in Delta State.
The aggrieved protesters, at about 10:15 a.m., descended upon some banks and demolished other public properties in the above states.
Common Nigerians have been suffering from a shortage of cash and fuel as well as inflation which had affected daily life and business processes.
However, the facilities of First Bank of Nigeria PLC, including her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and that of Access Bank at Udu road, Warri, were set ablaze by the angry protesters.
The protest coincided with Supreme Court sitting in Abuja which had on February 15, 2023, adjourned the suit filed by Governors to challenge the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to next Wednesday for a hearing.
The apex court would consolidate the cases and the state governors are required to abide by its decision on the matter.
