Nigerian Government To Investigate Death Of Nigerian Woman In Ethiopian Prison

The Nigerian government has said that it will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a Nigerian woman, Chizobia Eze in the Ethiopian prison.
Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, disclosed this in a release on March 15, 2023.
Recall that Chizoba Favour Eze who hailed from Eastern part of Nigeria died after she was allegedly brutalised by policemen in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopia capital.
Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that Eze died from injuries foisted on her by the police officers attached to Kaliti prison in Addis Ababa.
In her reaction, Chairman/ CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the Commission was in touch with the Nigerian Mission in Ethiopia and that the condition behind the death of the Nigerian lady would be unravel.
Erewa who was worried about the reported situations of some Nigerians serving various prison terms in Ethiopia, allegedly said that the majority of whom were involved in drug trafficking were granted amnesty some years back by Ethiopian government.
According to her, “the Nigerian Mission in Ethiopia has proposed an MOU from the Nigerian Correctional Service with the Ethiopian government on transfer of sentenced persons to Nigeria to complete their respective jail terms in Nigeria.
She stated the Nigerian Government is waiting for a response from Ethiopia,  even though, Ethiopia granted amnesty to Nigerian Prisoners in 2019 and a reasonable number of them still found their way back to the country and allegedly committed the same drug-related crime.”
The NIDCOM director comforted the family of Chizoba, who was said to have died on March 12, 2023, in Kaliti Prison in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a result of alleged physical aggression.
