NNU Women Wing Flags-Off Voters Registration Campaign For Ndokwa Nation

Ndokwa Neku Union Women Wing, a socio-cultural group in Ndokwa had unveiled the voters registration exercise in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State.

The voters drive was flagged off by the vice chairman Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Comrade (Mrs.) Awueli Asobi, in Kwale.

The sensitization on voters registration was one of the projects of NNU Women for the three LGAs in Ndokwa Nation.

The project which was fondly inferred as ‘PRO-VO-PRO’ commenced on Thursday, July 29, 2021 with a courtesy call to the chairman, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Chief Goddey Obi Nzete in his office.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the women in their large numbers moved around Kwale, alongside groups of indigenous dancers and jesters sensitizing and educating the masses on the ongoing voters registration program and its usefulness.

Speaking at Eke Market the ultimate location, the brain behind the event and NNU woman leader, Prof. (Mrs.) Julie Umukoro said the voters drive aims at motivating those at the grassroots to key into the ongoing voters registration exercise.

Prof. Umukoro disclosed that a number of such initiatives which had been trending on the media exclusively targeted the urban audience.

She said, “the voters drive aims at sensitizing and motivating the grass-root people of Ndokwa nation to key into the ongoing voters registration exercise.

Although, there have been a number of such initiatives trending, especially in social or print media (Television, Radio, Internet, Newspapers, Magazine, Posters among others), they often target exclusively the urban audience.”

She noted that the NNU Women Wing has in contrast planned the campaign to reach the rural communities in Ndokwa land.

The Leader pointed out that the event would soon proceed to Ndokwa East and Ukwani Local Government Areas, saying the event in its first series would follow soon after, at Ashaka and Obiaruku Market Squares.

Prof Umukoro explained that the choice of making market the venue for the exercise was to reach greater percentage of the people at grassroots.

She said, “voters registration campaign is designed to take place in popular market centres of the different Local Government Areas in Ndokwa. It is believed that market hosts a variety of audiences and greater percentage of grass-root people, either as buyers or sellers; hence seen as the ideal setting.”

Commenting, the NNU Women Wing Secretary and SSA to the governor on special duties, Barr. (Mrs.) Omude N.O Ochibe emphasized the primacy of voters card, saying that it gives one the right to participate in electoral matters.

Barr. Ochide who doubled as the Coordinator, Widows Welfare Scheme, Ndokwa West hinted that voter’s card is the power of electorate to chose representatives.

She appealed to sons and daughters of Ndokwa Nation abroad to get registered at home to broaden Ndokwa voting strength.

“I am appealing to the sons and daughters of Ndokwa Nation who had attained the age of 18, and have no voters card to use this opportunity to register.

You cannot stay outside Ndokwa land to condemn the representatives without making effort for Ndokwa to be good. Come home, register for our votes to be numerous,” she advised.

On his part, the Leader of Ndokwa West Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Ndubisi Okoloafor thanked the women for the initiative and urged all the councillors to toll the same path by ensuring that their constituents participate actively in the ongoing voters registration exercise.

Referring to councilors as bridge builders, Hon. Okoloafor tasked his colleagues to mobilize the people in their immediate communities to enable them vote for their candidates come 2023 elections.

The event was witnessed by the executive chairman, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Chief Goddey Obi Nzete, Vice chairman, Mrs. Awueli Asobi, Dr. Caroline Uzorka and Mrs. Mary Chukwma.

Others were Princess Gloria Ozuem, Hon. Ndubisi Okoloafor, INEC representative, Mr. Austin Ogbolu and a host of others.
