Oborevwori Assures Ndokwa Nation of Improved Power Supply, Says Okpai Step-Down Project on Course

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, has assured the Ndokwa nation of improved electricity supply, stating that concrete steps are being taken to ensure the completion and effective operation of the Okpai Step-Down power project.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday in Kwale while addressing the Ndokwa Annual General Conference organised by the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU) at Ndokwa House.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the said; “As a government, we are fully aware of the importance of the Okpai Step-Down project to the Ndokwa people.”

“We are working in synergy with relevant federal authorities and critical stakeholders to ensure that the people who host the light also see the light in their homes and businesses,” Oborevwori said.

He described the Okpai Power Plant as a strategic national asset, stressing that host communities must not be excluded from its direct benefits, particularly in terms of reliable electricity supply that can drive socio-economic growth.

The governor further disclosed that electricity supply in Kwale and surrounding communities would witness significant improvement with the full operation of the Kwale Free Trade Zone.

“With the full take-off of the Kwale Free Trade Zone, electricity supply in Kwale and its environs will receive a major boost. This will enhance industrial activities, attract investors, create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the Ndokwa nation,” he said.

Oborevwori reaffirmed that improved power supply aligns with his administration’s MORE Agenda, noting that access to stable electricity is critical to empowering small and medium-scale enterprises and improving the quality of life of the people.

“Power remains a key driver of development, and we are committed to ensuring that Ndokwa communities are not left behind in our quest for inclusive growth,” he added.

He also urged the Ndokwa people to sustain peace and unity, emphasizing that development can only thrive in a stable and harmonious environment.

The governor commended the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union for fostering dialogue and unity, assuring them that his administration remains open to constructive engagement aimed at advancing the development of Ndokwa land and Delta State as a whole.
