Nigerian international Victor Osimhen is set to undergo further medical evaluation following the arm injury he sustained during UEFA Champions League action last week.
The Galatasaray striker arrived in Istanbul on Sunday night ahead of scheduled scans to determine the severity of the fracture and whether surgical intervention will be required. The injury occurred during the club’s round of 16 clash against Liverpool FC at Anfield.
Initial medical reports confirmed that the 27-year-old suffered a fracture to his right forearm after a first-half collision. Although he completed the half, he was withdrawn at the break as a precautionary measure.
In a statement, Galatasaray disclosed that post-match examinations revealed the extent of the injury, leading to his arm being placed in a cast. The club added that a final decision on surgery would follow further assessments by its medical team.
“After the match, examinations at the hospital confirmed a fracture in his right forearm. The arm has been immobilised, and a decision regarding surgery will be made after additional evaluations,” the statement read.
Osimhen now faces a potential spell on the sidelines, with early projections suggesting a recovery period ranging between three to five months, depending on treatment outcomes and rehabilitation progress.
The development is a significant concern for Galatasaray, who are currently pushing for domestic success despite their exit from Europe. Osimhen has been instrumental this season, contributing 19 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
His absence also extends to the national team, as he has been omitted from Nigeria’s squad for upcoming international friendlies in Turkey.
Club sources indicate that a non-surgical recovery remains the preferred outcome, though a definitive course of action will be established following Monday’s medical review.
