Residents and road users along the Abraka–Abbi axis have raised concerns over the quality of work on the ongoing Delta State Government road project, describing it as substandard and below expected specifications.
The concerns were captured in a video clip obtained by AFIMAG, in which a resident, whose voice was heard in the footage, lamented the manner in which the road construction is being handled by the contractor.
The speaker alleged that the materials and methods being used do not meet acceptable engineering standards, expressing fears that the road may deteriorate shortly after completion.
According to the narration in the video, sections of the road already worked on appear weak, poorly compacted and prone to damage, despite the project still being under construction.
The resident questioned the level of supervision by relevant government agencies and called on the Delta State Government to urgently intervene to ensure value for public funds.
The Abraka–Abbi road is a critical link between communities in Delta State and serves as an important route for commerce, education and social activities. Residents say they had high expectations that the project would bring lasting relief after years of poor road conditions.
They are now appealing to the state government, the Ministry of Works and other regulatory authorities to inspect the project, compel the contractor to adhere strictly to approved standards, and take corrective action where necessary.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Government and the contractor handling the project had not issued an official response to the allegations.
