The House of Representatives has, at last, approved the sum of sixty one billion dollars in new US military aid for Ukraine.
The large sum would go a long way in helping Ukraine contain Russia’s aggressions that commenced in 2022.
It is unclear when the aid will arrive. The bill will now go to the Senate, which is expected to pass it within the next few days before President Joe Biden signs it into law.
Aside from replenishing weapons and ammunition systems, Ukraine will also receive more than $9bn (£7.28bn) of economic assistance in the form of “forgivable loans” that do not need to be paid back.
However, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wanted to push the measures through, even if it jeopardized his position.
Commenting, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, who thanked the Lawmakers for their consideration, described the US support as a vital move.
Zelensky said the fund would keep the war from expanding and save thousands of lives.
In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since then, thousands of people, mainly soldiers, have been killed or injured on both sides, and millions of Ukrainians have deserted their homes.
