Tragedy struck in Anambra State, as seven people, including police officers and two civilians, lost their lives in a brutal attack by unidentified assailants.
The incident occurred in Ihiala Local Government Area, where a group of hoodlums invaded a venue preparing for a burial ceremony and started shooting sporadically.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack happened in the early hours of Monday, with the assailants firing at police officers and civilians alike.
The reason behind the attack is still unclear, but sources suggest it may be connected to a directive from the hoodlums that no burial ceremonies should be held in the community without their approval.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, ordering an immediate manhunt for the fleeing assailants.
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the Joint Security Team rescued one of the victims, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with the police assuring that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
