The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has elected a new executive committee to lead the party’s affairs ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders projecting a significant electoral shift in the council.
Comr. Lucky Ofomukoro emerged as Chairman of the party’s Ughelli North chapter through a consensus arrangement ratified at the local government congress held on Saturday. The exercise followed earlier ward congresses conducted across the 11 wards in the council.
Declaring the new executive duly elected, the Returning Officer, Mr. Nick Ovakporia, stated that the process was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitutional guidelines. He commended delegates and stakeholders for their orderly conduct and peaceful participation throughout the congress.
Addressing party members shortly after the declaration, founding leader of the APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, congratulated members for adopting a consensus approach at both ward and local government levels. He described the development as unprecedented and reflective of renewed unity within the party.
Emerhor expressed confidence that the strengthened internal cohesion would enhance the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, particularly in delivering victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, characterized the congress as peaceful and indicative of growing unity within the party.
He described Ughelli North; comprising seven kingdoms as a politically strategic council with one of the highest voting populations in the state.
Egbo projected that the party could secure at least 180,000 votes out of nearly 200,000 registered voters in the area in future elections.
He acknowledged the existence of minor dissenting voices but noted that reconciliation efforts were ongoing to consolidate unity within the party.
In his remarks, the outgoing APC Chairman in Ughelli North, Mr. Samuel Evwighono, urged members to extend full support to the new executive. He said his administration prioritized reconciliation and grassroots expansion across the wards, expressing optimism that outstanding issues would be resolved under the new leadership.
Evwighono stressed the need to reposition Ughelli North from its perceived opposition stronghold status, stressing that collective commitment would be essential to securing victory in 2027.
In his acceptance speech, Ofomukoro pledged to operate an inclusive administration and to work collaboratively with party leaders and stakeholders at all levels.
“As chairman, I am fully committed to working closely with our leaders and seeking their counsel in all decisions,” he said, assuring members that reconciliation and structural consolidation would remain top priorities.
He expressed confidence that improved coordination and sustained unity would enable the APC to strengthen its foothold in Ughelli North ahead of the 2027 general elections.
