2025 CAF Awards: Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi Named African Footballer of the Year

Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 African Footballer of the Year, securing the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) top individual honour after a landmark season for both club and country.

The Paris Saint-Germain right-back clinched the award for the first time, finishing ahead of Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen in the final voting conducted by football experts and leading African journalists.

Hakimi emerged as the favourite following a sensational campaign in which he played a pivotal role in PSG’s quadruple-winning season, lifting the Ligue 1 title, UEFA Champions League, Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions. His performances also propelled him to sixth place in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.

A standout performer throughout the year, Hakimi logged over 3,400 minutes across all competitions. He registered 6 goals and 4 assists in Ligue 1, along with 5 goals and 4 assists in the Champions League, while contributing defensively to 10 clean sheets.

His consistency earned him places in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and the CAF Team of the Year. He also played a key role in PSG’s run to the FIFA Club World Cup final.

Hakimi’s victory marks another milestone in his career and solidifies his status as one of the world’s most influential full-backs.
