Charles Emetulu Champions Strict Adherence to Education Policies in Delta

Hon. Charles Emetulu, the member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to the advancement of education in the state.

Emetulu, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, called for education insulation from political interference, saying that prioritizing education is fundamental to the state’s growth and transformation.

The Legislator, who stressed the need for strict compliance with established education policies, underscored its critical roles in individual and societal development, adding that education must be approached with all seriousness and purpose, devoid of political distractions.

He said, “Delta State operates free education policy at Primary and Secondary Schools level of Education. We don’t pay school fees. As a Chairman of the House Committee on Education, I don’t expect to hear that there is illegal fee collection.

“I look forward to having a system that trust in its policies and sees to the smooth implementation of the policies relevant to that sector or subsector of education.

“Recently, some primary school heads in the state were sactioned for illegal collection of fees. Collection of unapproved levies, to me, right now, is a biggest challenge in education sector. You can’t say education is free, yet, parents are paying.

“Meanwhile, as a committee, we have had meetings with the two Ministries of Education (Primary and Secondary), including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). We have put it before them to ensure that they comply with the State Government’s policies as it concerns education at the primary and secondary education sectors.”

He noted that the Delta State government has developed sound educational policies over the years, but the policies must be diligently implemented to have meaningful impact.

According to him, strict adherence to these guidelines will ensure uniform standards, transparency, and measurable improvements across all levels of the education sector.

While kicking against the influence of political interests in educational decision-making, Emetulu called for reforms based solely on merit, need, and best practices.

As a member of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emetulu has consistently used his legislative platform to push for reforms that uplift the education sector. His leadership of the House Committee on Education has been marked by advocacy for infrastructure development and equitable distribution of educational resources for positive outcome.

He further assured constituents of his committment to supporting policies and legislation that will strengthen the state’s eduacation system.
