Dr. Mabel Onyekachukwu Adinkwu, National Treasurer of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), has spotlighted efforts to strengthen financial discipline, transparency, and accountability as she marks one year in office.
Reflecting on her stewardship, Dr. Adinkwu described the past year as “engaging, enlightening, and challenging, but ultimately rewarding,” noting that the Union’s leadership embarked on wide consultations across Ndokwa Nation, engaging traditional rulers, president-generals, political leaders, youth and women groups, professionals, and other critical stakeholders.
According to her, these engagements provided clearer insight into the priorities of the people, including improved infrastructure, stable electricity supply, employment opportunities for youths, accountable political representation, and equitable benefits from oil companies operating within Ndokwa communities.
She explained that while expectations remain high, the consultations have helped the Union refine its advocacy strategy and better align its interventions with the most pressing needs.
From a financial governance perspective, Dr. Adinkwu said her focus over the past year has been on reinforcing transparency, fiscal discipline, and institutional structure within the Union.
While highlighting strengthening of documentation processes, prudent resource management, and improved reporting mechanisms aimed at enhancing trust and credibility, the NNU Treasurer maintained that sustainable advocacy rests on accountability, stressing that organizations earn influence when they demonstrate responsible leadership and structured management systems.
She explained that meaningful visibility goes beyond publicity and is rooted in consistency, professionalism, and responsible engagement.
Addressing challenges confronting the Union, Dr. Adinkwu identified limited financial resources as a structural constraint, noting that NNU operates primarily as an advocacy and watchdog body without statutory funding.
She also acknowledged the gap between public expectations and the Union’s constitutional mandate, particularly in areas such as infrastructure provision, job creation, and social services, which fall within the purview of government and corporate entities.
Dr. Adinkwu proposed strengthening internal funding mechanisms, encouraging broader financial participation from members and stakeholders, and improving communication to clarify the Union’s role and limitations.
She also advocated deeper partnerships with government institutions, oil companies, and development agencies, alongside stronger collaboration among Ndokwa communities.
Despite prevailing constraints, she described the experience as enriching, saying it has deepened her understanding of participatory “leadership and strengthened her resolve to serve with integrity and transparency.”
Reflecting on her 2023 bid for the Ndokwa-East Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly, Dr. Adiku stated that her aspiration was driven by a vision of inclusive growth, improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social welfare.
Although not currently in public office, she said she remains actively engaged with community leaders and stakeholders to advocate practical solutions and mobilize support for development initiatives.
She emphasized that leadership and service are not defined solely by political office but by sustained dedication and constructive engagement.
Dr. Adinkwu, however, calls for unity, accountability, and proactive civic participation, urging Ndokwa people to work collectively toward sustainable development.
She expressed optimism that through stronger institutional frameworks, responsible advocacy, and collaborative partnerships, the Union can continue to contribute meaningfully to the progress of Ndokwa Nation.
