David de Gea Has Shown £40m Transfer What To Do At Manchester United

David de Gea has enjoyed an excellent start to the season and his heroic penalty save won Man United the three points on Sunday.

Although the Premier League has a tendency to produce captivating moments that not even Hollywood could think of, the ‘you couldn’t write a script like this’ line is often overused by commentators in football and it’s certainly a cliché expression.

When Jesse Lingard scored a late goal for Manchester United against West Ham at the weekend, drama ensued that would actually be worthy for a cinematic screen, though. United thought that game was won after Lingard’s goal, but when Luke Shaw was deemed to handle the ball deep into stoppage time, the hosts were given a penalty.

West Ham icon Mark Noble then entered the field as a substitute to take the penalty, which would be his first touch of the ball.

Noble’s effort from the spot was poor, but David de Gea guessed right and heroically palmed the ball away from danger. United’s travelling contingent were sent into pandemonium as the Spanish international saved his first penalty for five years in dream circumstances.

Manchester United enjoyed a sensational transfer window, securing the signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and… oh, yes, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be under pressure to deliver silverware with his star-studded front line. We cover every angle of the club at the MEN and with our dedicated United newsletter, you’ll never miss a headline. It’s free and there’s no spam.
