By Odili Ogochukwu –

Director of Human Rights Protection Congress (HRPC), Delta State, Comr. Monday Enudi has called on activists in the state to remain faithful and maintain high level of integrity in the society.

Enudi also called on the public to report cases of oppression, extortion or exploitation by security operatives and activists to the HRPC for necessary action.

In an interview with Africa Investigative Magazine, Enudi urged activists to desist from conducts ruining the body, saying that activism is practiced with strong moral principles.

Cautioning activists against extorting members of the public, he warned that anyone caught in the act would be arrested, noting that “activism is a selfless service to humanity.”

On claims by Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Ademola Adebayo that most of the activists shied Yahoo boys from facing the wrath of the law, the human rights leader urged the area commander to arrest such personalities, adding that activism is a product of dignity.

Enudi, who described those involved in extortion as “faceless activists”, said the human rights protection congress is committed to socio-political and environmental reforms.

According to him, activism entails proper application of integrity and humility to achieve a specific objective.

“My preferred approach to activism is to have a goal, aim and objective. Applying moral, integrity, respect for others and total humility knowing what your calling or area of specialisation is, and dwelling on it as activism have a broad scope,” he said.

He further advised that the HRPC should not be seen as a business or job opportunity, rather, a pillar for the oppressed to lean on.

“Like I always say, activism is a selfless service to humanity and those that are involved in this act of exploiting and extorting people are jobless, faceless activist who see activism as a job opportunity.

“Activism is not a business or a job but selfless service to humanity. Don’t forget that humanitarian service in activism which is sometimes, you give out to less privilege; standing for the oppress, being a voice to the voiceless. These are the basic of activism not extortion,” Enudi added.
