Herders Kill 45, Policeman, Others In Benue Attack

Suspected Fulani Hersdmen have again thrown the residents of Umogidi village, Enetekpa Adoka District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue state, after slaughtering 46 persons in a renewed attack on April 02, 2023.
The victims of the attack also included the son of Local Government Council Chairman and a police officer.
Though, the casualty figure could be higher as a lot of persons were reported missing and unaccounted for at the time of filing this report.
The same community was attacked a few hours which led to the killing of three persons whose corpses were just buried when the armed herders stormed the community for the second time in less than 12 hours.
The Chairman of Otupko Local Government Area, Mr. Bako Eje who was an indigene of the community and whose son was murdered in the attack confirmed the incident.
Mr. Eje said herdsmen returned to the village around 4:15 pm and killed 46 persons including his son and the husband of his immediate younger sister.
“Shortly after the burial the herdsmen came back to the village at about 4:15 pm and killed 46 persons including my own son who was 33 years old.
“They also killed the husband of my immediate younger sister and her son of about 38 years. Several other persons are still missing and we do not know their whereabouts, but I am still in the village.”
Reacting, the state police command through the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene said “eight corpses have been recovered including a Police officer.
He noted that more police teams have been deployed to the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
