There is a danger that we will open our lives to the wrong kind of people. It simply is not true that we need all the friends we can get. The following must be adhered to get right people in our lives.

1. We must learn to Learn to stand alone. Those who are best equipped for friendship are those most prepared to stand alone. This person is committed to standing firm on his or her convictions, whatever the cost in terms of popularity or social acceptance. We must not take the risk of accommodating anyone into our emotions for fear of loneliness.
2. Learn To Say No. We must say no to what looks offensive and not adding value to our lives. People are not morally neutral. They either influence our lives for good or bad.

3. Learn who to stay away from:
a). The gossip. You must avoid the gossip. If they are not loyal to others, they will not be loyal to you.
b). The Quick-tempered. Proverb 22:24-25 says, “Do not associate with a man given to anger, or go with a hot-tempered man, lest you learn his way, and find a name for yourself.
c). The Disloyal. Loyalty is one of the greatest virtues in friendship. Give it and expect it.

d). The Discontented. Watch the whiner, the complainer, those who constantly maintain a bad attitude to authority or circumstances.
e). The Self Indulgent. Keep away from selfish people who are wrapped up in themselves, their wants, and wishes.
f). The Immoral. With friends like this, you are on the road to disaster. If they want you to read that dirty book, see the dirty film or listen to the dirty language, you cannot help being affected for the world.
