Nigerians Without NIN Will Be Imprisoned Says Pantami

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, has said that NIGERIANS who did not enroll for the National Identification Number will be imprisoned.

Dr. Pantami said this during the sixth edition of the Ministerial Briefing organized by the Presidential Media Team at the State House, Abuja.

Isa Pantami stated that the decision to imprison those without National Identification Number is specified in Nigerian Constitution.

He further stated that National Identity Number is mandatory, adding that a lot of transactions in the country must not be done without it.

The Minister of Communication who revealed that the aggregate registration for SIM in the country is 189 million stated that about 51 million Nigerians have enrolled for NIN.

Dr. Isa Pantami stressed that 150 million Nigerians completed their registrations while the remaining have issues of improper registration.

“The government would not lift ban on SIM registration for security purposes,” he said.
