South-East Clerics, Traditional Rulers, Others Meet To End Killings In The Region
In an effort to halt the incessant killings in the South-East especially Imo state, a Selection of Igbo Leaders has appealed to the people in the region to shun violence as well as politics of bitterness.
The group made the appeal today in a meeting held at Owerri, the administrative capital of Imo State.
The group said that lives and properties amounted to billions of naira have been lost as a result crises in the region.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the group had also proposed a meeting with the stakeholders including the governor and past governors.
Others to be invited for a peace talk at the proposed meeting were the former governorship aspirants and the elders of Imo State.
It was further gathered that recently, the throats of about five traditional rulers have been split like he-goats with several others kidnapped by unknown forces.

The body which was made up of the Traditional Rulers, Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops on peace and conflict resolution was headed by Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe.
The group who attributed the violence in the region to selfish politicians, called on the political leaders and followers to imbibe the right attitude to propagate love and unity.
While condemning the invasion of the church service by policemen on December 26, 2021, they said such show of shame exposed the hostility amongst the principal officials in the State.

In a statement jointly signed by the Obi Of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko, Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, the body in a strong term condemned the desecration of house of God on Christmas Boxing Day.
The statement said; “The desecration of place of worship by policemen exposed the face-off in the state.
“Imo State has become a war zone continually as a result of violence caused by greedy political leaders. It is unacceptable and must be brought to an end.
“Violence and violation of laws and order fuelled by selfish politicians in the state is unacceptable and must not continue.
“At this point, we call on all the political leaders vying for any position and their followers to refrain from negative decisions that lead to violence. The South-East needs peace,” it said.
