U.S Capitol: Reps To Summon Trump Over Attack

Afimag.com-

The United States House of Representatives council investigating the January 06, 2021 invasion of the US Capitol would invite former President Donald Trump for his failure to contain the attack.

This comes to play after the investigation board voted unanimously on October 12, 2022, to subpoena Donald Trump.

The board noted that Trump must be held responsible for the attack by his supporters and that his refusal to appear on the committee could amount to criminal charges.

The committee also ascertained that Trump failed to placate his supporters who attacked the Capitol.

The panel further alleged that Trump’s proponents acted upon his false claims that the election was stolen even as close advisers told him (Donald Trump) that he had lost.

The committee which was made up of seven Democratic and two Republican members voted 9-0 in favor of issuing a subpoena for Trump to provide documents and testimony under oath in connection with the storming of the Capitol.

The chairman of the panel and member of Democratic, Bennie Thompson, said, “He (Trump) must be accountable. He is required to answer for his actions.

“He is required to answer for those police officers who put their lives and bodies on the line to defend our democracy.

“He is required to answer to those millions of Americans whose votes he wanted to throw out as part of his scheme to remain in power.”

The subpoena is expected within days and would give Trump a date by which he should comply. It was not clear when the full House – which is out of Washington until mid-November – could vote on whether to make a criminal referral.

Federal law announces that failure to comply with a congressional subpoena is a misdemeanor, punishable by one to 12 months of detention.
