Ughelli North Youths Reject Omo-Agege, Boycott One Million-Man March

Political tensions deepened in Delta State over the weekend as residents of Ughelli North Local Government Area, particularly youths and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), distanced themselves from a One Million-Man March organized in support of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

The march, held on Saturday, was intended to galvanize support for Senator Omo-Agege’s political ambitions. However, the event drew a muted response in Ughelli North, with visible signs of public disapproval and widespread non-participation from the local population.

In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, a prominent political leader in the area, Prince Elvis Oharisi, said the people of Ughelli North had “vehemently rejected” Senator Omo-Agege. He described the march as a “show of shame,” noting that fewer than 80 participants were in attendance, many of whom, he alleged, were mobilized from outside the local government area.

“The people of Ughelli North have spoken clearly through their actions. This event is not about our needs or aspirations. It was simply a desperate attempt by Omo-Agege to revive his dwindling political image,” Oharisi stated.

He further accused the senator of running a self-centered political agenda, adding that the march lacked substance and failed to address the genuine concerns of the people.

“While we appreciate the importance of political engagement, our leaders must prioritize the welfare of the people over personal ambition. Many of our youths are increasingly disillusioned with political theatrics that yield no tangible benefit,” he said.

The statement emphasized that the widespread boycott of the event underscores a broader sentiment of dissatisfaction among the youth, who are seeking sincerity, accountability, and impactful governance.

“This rejection should serve as a wake-up call to political actors that the era of empty grandstanding is over. The youth of Ughelli North are a force that can no longer be ignored,” Oharisi added.

The development marks a significant political moment in Delta State, as grassroots opposition to established political figures like Omo-Agege continues to gain momentum. Observers say it may reshape the dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
