Why Ogume Community Deserves Novena University’s Second Campus

Odili Ogochukwu

Novena University is a private university located in Amai, Delta State, Nigeria. It was established in 2005 and has since become a reputable institution of higher learning in the country.

The University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various faculties, including Arts, Management Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Social Sciences.

The university is known for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community development. Its campus in Amai provides a serene and conducive environment for learning and research.

The quest for knowledge and educational development is a fundamental aspect of human progress. In Nigeria, the establishment of universities has played a crucial role in shaping the country’s intellectual landscape. Novena University, a renowned institution of higher learning, has been at the forefront of providing quality education to Nigerians. As the university contemplates the establishment of a second campus, we make the case for why Ogume community is the ideal location for Campus II.

Ogume community is strategically located in the heart of Delta State, making it an ideal hub for educational activities. The community’s proximity to major towns and cities in the state ensures easy accessibility for students, faculty, and staff. Moreover, the location offers a serene and conducive environment for learning, far removed from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

The establishment of Campus II in Ogume community would have a significant impact on the local economy. The influx of students, faculty, and staff would create a surge in demand for goods and services, thereby stimulating economic growth. Local businesses would flourish, and new opportunities for entrepreneurship would emerge. Furthermore, the university’s presence would attract investments, creating jobs and improving the overall standard of living in the community.

The presence of a university campus in Ogume community would have a profound social impact. It would provide opportunities for the local population to access quality education, thereby bridging the knowledge gap and promoting social mobility. The university would also serve as a catalyst for community development, fostering partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders to drive social and economic change.

The establishment of Campus II in Ogume community would necessitate the development of critical infrastructure, including roads, housing, and utilities. This would not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also provide a solid foundation for the university’s operations. Furthermore, the university’s investment in infrastructure would serve as a catalyst for further development in the community.

However, I present a compelling case for the establishment of Campus II of Novena University in Ogume, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State. The community’s strategic location, economic potential, social impact, and infrastructure development needs make it an ideal location for the university’s expansion. We believe that the establishment of Campus II in Ogume community would be a win-win for both the university and the local population, driving growth, development, and prosperity for all stakeholders.

The Nduku Ogume cultural festival will not be a stumbling block to establishing campus 11 of Novena University in Ogume, the immediate community of the school proprietor, Prof. Chuks Ochonogor. Amai, which hosted Novena University has a cultural festival. Abraka that hosted Delta State University for several decades has a festival. Ogwashi-Uku that hosted Delta State Polytechnic is not an exception, to mention but just a few. Most times, the students embark on a few days break during the festivals. Ogume’s case should not be different.
