The Anambra State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against child tr@fficking and sexu@l offences, rescuing a stolen chi!d and arresting suspects in separate incidents.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Gender Unit) rescued a six-year-old child in Ondo State following an intelligence-led investigation into a case of conspiracy, child stealing, and trafficking.
The case, originally reported at Okpoko Police Station, was transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation. According to the police, the child was found in the custody of an alleged foster parent and has since been reunited with his biological mother. All suspects linked to the crime have been charged before the Children, Sexu@l, and Gender-Based Vio!ence Court for prosecution.
In a separate incident, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on August 13 responded to a distress call at Ebenebe community over the alleged defi!ement of an 11-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Uchenna Nweke, was arrested after reportedly forcing his way into a bathroom where the victim was bathing and allegedly assaulting her.
Police disclosed that a medical report confirmed the suspect’s culpability, adding that the case will be charged to court on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable groups, warning that perpetrators of such crimes would face the full weight of the law.
