2026 FIFA World Cup: 12 Nations Crash Out as Knockout Race Intensifies

By Rossy Stephen

12 countries have officially been eliminated from the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup following the conclusion of  group-stage matches which brought an end to their campaigns in the expanded 48-team tournament.

The eliminated nations are Saudi Arabia, Curaçao, Haiti, Iraq, Jordan, New Zealand, Panama, Qatar, Czechia, Tunisia, Türkiye and Uruguay.

Each country has failed to secure enough points to advance to the Round of 32 after finishing outside the qualification places in their respective groups.

While some of the teams produced spirited performances and memorable moments during the tournament, inconsistent results and costly defeats ultimately dashed their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

With 12 of the 16 group-stage eliminations now confirmed, attention turns to the remaining fixtures, which will determine the final three teams to exit the competition before the Round of 32 begins.

The knockout phase is expected to feature the world’s top-performing nations as the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title gathers momentum.

At that stage, Scotland’s qualification hopes had not been mathematically extinguished, as the race for the remaining best third-placed spots was still being determined by results from other groups.
