Checkmate Oil Companies Operations, Federal Government Called

A call has gone to Federal Government of Nigeria to steer up measures in checkmating the activities of the oil companies operating in Ndokwa land.

A Community leader from Okpai Oluchi, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Mr Chibuzor Ikwuobodo made the call in a chat with newsmen at Kwale, Delta State.

He said sequel to the gross negligence of oil producing Communities, particularly Ndokwa land by oil companies that the people of the area were facing perpetual hardship.

Ikwuobodo said most of the Oil companies like Sterling Global and others have destroyed Ndokwa land through their operations, without adhering to the ethical standard of oil operations and oil and gas laws.

He said the companies, especially Sterling Global company has not carried out proper clean up on the environments as a result of various pipeline leakages in Okpai Oluchi and other Communities, describing the situation as unfortunate.

The Community leader said Steering Global company has over twelve oil spillage in the Community and yet no reasonable effort was put in place to arrest the ugly situation.

Okwuobodo said Sterling Global company facilities cut across the Communities in Ndokwa land including Okpai Oluchi and nobody from the Communities have been compensated for the past eight years.

While saying that the operations of the companies have made life unbearable for the people of the area, he called on the Federal and State Governments to come to the aid of the people.

The companies according to him have no regards for Federal Government laws, oil and gas laws and international laws as a result of poor monitoring body, adding that Government should keep proper watch on the activities of the oil companies for the interest of the host Communities.
