Delta Holds LG Elections In Violent Free Atmosphere

The election witnesses a low turn out of voters in some local government areas including Aniocha South, Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East amongst others as a result of the downpour that trickled at the early hour of the day.

Other areas that recorded low turn out of voters in Ughelli North LGA were Otovwodo, Afiesere, Ufuoma, Igwhre-Ovie and Oteri. The residents clustered market places and streets going about their businesses without restrictions.

Commenting on the election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftain and chairman of Delta State Health Contributory Scheme, Olorogun (Dr.) Isaac O. Akpoveta, expressed gladness on the conduct of the election, describing it as the most peaceful local government chairmanship and counsellorship elections in the state.

He commended the leadership of the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for ensuring that the PDP presented the sellable candidates in all positions.

On poor turnout of electorates, Akpoveta attributed it to the downpour, noting that the early morning rain was a threat, but the polling units were crowded at the point it stopped raining.

“It rains cats and dogs today. By the time you go back to the polling units now you find out it is loaded with people and they voting. It happened in the morning as I went round Ufuoma when it’s still raining the polling units were empty.

“As soon as the rain stops, I move round the units and people were voting. You’ll see the massive turn out, and voting strength is encouraging not minding the initial drop occasioned by the rainfall.

The Delta Central PDP chieftain also called on Deltans to continually throw their weights behind Sheriff Oborevwori in his splendid choices for more development in the state.
