Delta State Government Establishes Law To Control Community Disputes, CDAs
The Delta State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has on Tuesday February 22, 2022 assent into law the bill seeking to regulate the activities of community development associations.
The bill has long ago scaled through second reading at the Delta State House of assembly and forwarded to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa to approval.
In a press briefing, Commissioner for information Mr Charles Aniagwu stated that it was a matter of importance to inform the public of the law which was passed and signed by His Excellency in December 2021, for the effective administration of this law.
He stated that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to enforce this law.
Earlier, Mr Isaiah Bozimo said “peace and security within our communities are critical, because every single project and plans that we have in terms of development of the state is located within a particular community, and at the heart of these communities are the Development Associations.
“So when we have a stable CDA, it assists us in bringing development projects within our respective communities by extension with LGAs and ultimately within the State.”
Bozimo said that this Law became necessary to regulate the activities of the CDAs to avoid unfortunately situation of disputes and factions within CDAs which led to the breakdown of law and order in some communities in the past.
The attorney general emphasized the registration of the CDAs with the Ministry of women affairs and social development as well as make available their CAC registration, their constitution, their bylaws and any other relevant documents.
The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development represented by the Parmanet Secretary Mrs Kevwe Agas disclosed that several communities have been registered and in touch with the ministry, and that the ministry is ready to take more applications.
The commissioner speaking futher said the requirements for the registration including N50,000 (fifty thousand naira) and other relevant documents as mentioned earlier.
She stated that this registration is an add advantage to these communities as it will ensure proper organisation which will increase their chances to access community based developmental programs.
