FG Concessions Abuja, Kano Airports For $8.5 Million

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the successful concession of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
The FG who made the announcement on May 18, 2023, said it also concession Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
In a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Minister of Aviation, James Odaudu, obtained by Africa Investigative Magazine, the FG said the concession was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to James Odaudu, the Corporation American Airport Consortium made the highest offer.

Odaudu, who said that consortium constituted the Corporation American Airports, Mota Engil Africa, and Mota Engil Nigeria, added that the Corporation American Airport Consortium would make upfront payments of $7 million for NAIA and $1.5 million for MAKIA.
He further stated that during the concession period, total projected nominal revenues accruable from the combined concession of NAIA and MAKIA would exceed $4 billion which, according to him, over 70 per cent of these projected revenues will be payable to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Odaudu stated that the concessioning of Abuja and Kano airports were in alignment with the Aviation Roadmap approved by the President on October 18, 2016, and signified the ministry’s commitment towards revitalizing the nation’s aviation sector, adding that the partnership arrangement would be effective for 20 years for NAIA and 30 years for MAKIA.
