Gunmen Abduct Female Footballers In Edo, Demand N30m Ransom

No fewer than six football officials were kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen in Uronigbe, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo State.

The victims who were abducted on August 12, 2022, were said to be players and staff of grassroots female football team.

Africa Investigative Magazine learned that the six victims were kidnapped around 6pm while returning from a game at Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

A source in the community told AFIMAG that the abductors had established contacts with some families demanding N5 million per victim.

“The footballers went to Owa-Alero to play football match. While returning home, they were kidnapped at Uronigbe community, the boundary between Delta and Edo State.

“The victims are Mrs Precious Agbajor, Abraham, Nancy, Beatrice, the driver and one other person. I think they are six people in the kidnapper’s den. The matter has been incidented to the Uronigbe police station.

“The kidnappers have contacted the family of Agbajor and asked them to pay N5 million for his wife.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta state Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the kidnapping incident, adding that the incident happened in Edo State.

His Edo state counterpart, Chidi Nwabuzor, said from the record available at the State Command, that there is no information about the incident.
