The Delta State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, on Saturday held its 8th Convocation Ceremony, graduating a total of 5,922 students.

The event drew dignitaries, parents, alumni and other stakeholders who converged on the institution to celebrate academic achievement and resilience.

In her welcome address, the Provost, Dr. (Mrs.) Odiete Congrat Eravweroso, described the convocation as historic, noting that it was the first under her leadership since her appointment in August 2025 by the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

She said the ceremony was particularly significant as it brought together graduates from 2017 to 2025, many of whom had waited for years to formally receive their certificates, adding that the convocation symbolised “closure, restoration and the fulfilment of a long-awaited academic right.”

Dr. Odiete expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government for its sustained support to education and manpower development, while also appreciating members of the Governing Council, regulatory bodies, traditional rulers, parents and partners of the college.

She congratulated recipients of Honorary Fellowship and Distinguished Personality Awards, describing them as role models whose achievements inspire students and society. While urging the graduands to uphold professionalism, discipline and compassion, she stressed that character, beyond certificates, would define their impact in the health sector.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief (Dr.) Chris Oharisi, congratulated the graduates, describing the ceremony as a celebration of diligence, perseverance and purpose.

He reminded them that healthcare is both a privilege and a sacred trust, noting that their competence, integrity and humanity would shape lives and communities.

Representing the Governor and Visitor to the institution, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, congratulated the graduates and charged them to deploy their skills in service to humanity.

He encouraged them to pursue further studies and commended the Governing Council and management for organising a convocation after a long interval.

Prof. Tonukari conveyed the goodwill of Governor Oborevwori and expressed optimism that the Governor would attend the next convocation ceremony.

The convocation marked a major milestone in the history of the Delta State College of Health Sciences and Technology, reaffirming its commitment to producing skilled, ethical and compassionate health professionals for the state and the nation.

Highlights of the ceremony included the conferment of certificates, National Diplomas and Higher National Diplomas on 5,922 graduates, presentation of awards to best graduating students, conferment of fellowship and personality awards, and a group photograph.
