The mother of a five-month old baby, Mrs. Nafisat Muhideen, has narrated how her daughter was killed by dogs in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on August 30, 2023.
Mrs. Muhideen said she was going out to purchase some drugs for herself and the deceased daughter when they were attacked by dogs on that ill-fated afternoon.
It all transpired at Hallelujah Estate, while dogs passing toward a vacant building in the area attacked them, killing her daughter in the process.
According to the nursing mother, her daughter was suffering from cold and catarrh when she decided to look for a patent medicine store to get some drugs for her.
“My baby, Mariam, had catarrh that I contracted flu from her. I went out strapping her on my back to get some drugs for her and for myself too, because I was having headache.
“As I was out to get drugs, I heard a sound from behind and by the time I turned around to check, a dog jumped on me from behind.
“It dragged the baby off my back and was attacking her. I ran around calling for help but no one was around to help rescue her. I threw stone at the dog to no avail, even site workers were not around to help me.
“Later, some neighbours arrived and attempted to get the baby off the dog, which proved abortive, until the dog was killed and the body of the baby retrieved,” she explained.
Confirming, the Osun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident, said the owner of the dog had been arrested.
