NANS Reject 95% School Fee Hike By DSPG, Place Embargo On Payment, Others

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has cried out over the ninety five percent increment of school fees by the management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku.
NANS Zone B leadership also bemoaned the management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro over some compulsory fees levied on the students.
In what NANS described as illegal collection, exploitation and extortion of Nigerian Students by the schools management, the body frowned at the payment of five thousand naira for certificate cover after paying N15,700 for collection of the same certificate.

Also rejected by NANS was the continually payment of the facility upgrade fee, which according to the students body ought to be paid in one academic session.
Africa Investigative Magazine learned that the school management, stakeholders and NANS had in a meeting after the outbreak of Covid-19 resorted to the payment of facility upgrade fee for the institution to provide some gadgets to enable the students comply to the Covid-19 rules upon resumption.
It was however, adopted at the meeting that the payment would be made once in 2020/2021 academic session during registration.

NANS lamented that the school management imposed the said fee on students doing clearance.
In a statement entitled, “Arbitray DSPG School Fee Hike And Continuous Extortion of Students in DSPZ: NANS Position”, the body condemned and rejected the hike in tuition fee by the management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku.
NANS urged the Nigerian students to place embargo on payment of school fees and other dues in contention, pending when the issue is resolved.

The body gave the Schools Managements 72 hours, (three working days) starting from January 15, 2022 to reverse to status quo.
It was verified that in last academic session, school fee for new students (Deltans) was N45,850 while that of Non Deltans was N59,530.
The returning students (Deltans) – Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) paid N38,250 and N36,250 respectively.
In a related development, the fee for Non Deltans was N52,500 and N49,000 for OND and HND respectively.

According to the statement by the students body which was copied to the Delta State governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the state commissioner for higher education, the state commissioner of police, the rector of the institution, amongst others, the school fee has been increased by 95%.
Commenting, NANS deputy coordinator, Zone B, Oghale Emeka Rex said, “Tell the management of DSPG and DSPZ that they should reverse immediately back to status quo the hike in tuition fees and other charges.
“Our 72 hours (three working days) ultimatum is sacrosanct and we will employ all positive means to achieve a positive result and struggle,” said Oghale.
