New York Prosecutor Says Trump Gave ‘False Expectation’ Of Arrest

Afimag.com –

The New York Prosecutor investigating the ex-president Donald Trump over hush money, on March 23, 2023, said Donald Trump created a “false expectation” of his arrest, adding that tensions build over a possible indictment of the former U.S president.

The Prosecutor stated that the comments were a follow up of uncertainty mount  when a grand jury hearing the case would take a vote on indicting Trump.

He described it as a record-breaking move that would rile the 2024 election campaigns in which the Republican’s Trump has prepared to regain the White House after losing reelection bid to Joel Biden.

Alvin Bragg is probing a $130,000 payment to a pornographic actress identified as Stormy Daniels in the weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

The payment was allegedly made to prevent Daniels from creating public awareness about a liaison, which according to her, Trump had maintained for years earlier.

In a remarked by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office and sent to three Republican lawmakers, Bragg requested that he testify before Congress about his probe.

After the letter was transmitted to him, Trump, on March 18, said without providing any evidence, that he expected to be arrested on Tuesday, and called for supporters to “Protest, take our nation back!”

“Your letter… is an unprecedented inquiry into a pending local prosecution,” Leslie Dubeck, the general counsel for Bragg’s office wrote in Thursday’s response.

“The letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene. Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.”

To further compound the situation, Trump’s post on Truth Social flared a media uproar and degenerated to alarms from Democrats that his call for protest could lead to repeat of the violence Trump’s fans declared at the US Capitol on January 06, 2021.

Consequently, the New York police have barricaded outside Bragg’s office, Trump Tower and the Manhattan Criminal Court, hoping that Trump would appear before a judge if found wanting.

With this development, Trump has become the first former president charged with a crime if the grand jury, a panel of citizens convened by Bragg, found him wanting.
