What You Should Know About Women’s Rights To Abortion

The Governor of Colorado State, in the United States of America, Jared Polis, has said that women have the volition to make reproductive healthcare decisions without government interference.

Governor Polis disclosed this on Monday, April 04, 2022, while assenting to Reproductive Health Equity Act which grants women the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.

Recall that the journey to the right to abortion started in 1967 when a Democratic lawmaker introduced the bill to allow abortions if a woman’s physical or mental health was threatened.

Also, if the yet-to-be-delivered child was deformed or in cases of rape, incest, or other controversial subjects that may question the authenticity of the biological father of the child.

Colorado State has, however, joined the fifteen states in Washington D.C in the protection of women’s legal abortion rights.

Signing the bill into law in Denver, Jared Polis said the decision to conceive (pregnancy) starts and ends with a woman and her doctor.

“In the State of Colorado, the serious decision to start or end a pregnancy with medical assistance will remain between a person, their doctor, and their faith.

“No matter what the Supreme Court does in the future, people in Colorado will be able to choose when and if they have children,” Polis said.

The bill was one of the longest bills debated in the House for 24 consecutive hours in the history of the Colorado legislature.

According to Pew Research Centre, 59 out of a hundred adults maintained that abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

It was further verified that a large number of women advocated for their right to an abortion.
