FG to Begin Payment of Outstanding N35,000 Wage Award Arrears to Workers

The Federal Government of Nigeria, has announced plans to commence the payment of outstanding wage award arrears to federal civil servants.

According to a statement released by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa, the arrears totaling five months will be disbursed in monthly instalments of N35,000 each.

The wage award, initially approved to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, had previously been partially implemented, with five months already paid.

The remaining arrears will now be settled in phases, beginning after the disbursement of April 2025 salaries.

Mokwa clarified that the payment would not be merged with April salaries but would follow shortly thereafter. He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to honoring agreements related to staff remuneration and welfare, emphasizing the importance of these measures in boosting worker morale, productivity, and overall efficiency in the public service.

President Bola Tinubu had in July 2024 approved a new national minimum wage of N70,000, but its implementation has faced delays due to funding constraints.

The latest move is seen as a step toward fulfilling the government’s obligations to its workforce.
