Firearms, Tricycle Recovered as Police Nab Suspected Cultist in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on cultism, armed criminality, and the unlawful possession of firearms, with successful operations carried out in Agbor and Warri.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the interventions were made in two separate incidents following swift responses to intelligence and suspicious activity.

According to the statement, on 8 November 2025, police operatives in Agbor acted on credible intelligence that members of the Eiye Confraternity were mobilising at Ojeifo Street by Iduwe. The Divisional Police Officer of Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa, immediately deployed patrol teams and the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit to the area.

Two suspected cultists, identified as Agu Nnamdi, of Ohumere Quarters, Agbor, and Promise Banco, of Iduwe by Ojeifo Street, Agbor-Obi, were arrested. A locally fabricated pistol concealed in a black nylon was recovered from the scene. The suspects are in custody while efforts continue to track other fleeing members of the group.

In a separate operation, on 16 November 2025, surveillance operatives of ‘B’ Division, Warri, led by CSP Josephine Ekebuike, were on patrol along Arubi Street off DECO Road when they noticed a tricycle operator riding against traffic at high speed with two passengers. Their suspicious behaviour prompted a pursuit into First Marine Quarters, where the occupants abandoned the tricycle and fled.

A search of the abandoned tricycle led to the recovery of two locally made double-barrel guns, nine mobile phones, four power banks, and a screwdriver. Police have since cordoned off the area and intensified stop-and-search operations to locate the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and curbing the spread of illegal firearms in the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to assist the police with credible information, assuring them of confidentiality.

He reiterated the Command’s resolve to maintain a secure environment where law-abiding citizens can go about their daily activities without fear.
