The death of a senior police officer, late Superintendent of Police (SP) Omatseye Uroye Solomon, has sparked controversy following allegations of family conflict, abandonment and a dispute involving his widow.
Solomon, who hailed from the Diare and Omasan families in Jakpa, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, died in Abuja after a period of illness.
His widow, Mrs Omatseye Oghenero, has alleged that she was sent away from the hospital where her husband was receiving treatment shortly before his death.
Speaking in an interview weeks after the officer’s demise, Mrs Oghenero claimed that her husband’s elder brother, Mr Murray Omatseye, instructed their children through a WhatsApp message to take action against her, allegedly citing differences in ethnic background.
She further alleged that she was branded a gold digger and accused of abandoning her husband during his illness.
“After sending me away from my husband, they locked me out of our home for four months now before his death,” the widow alleged.
According to her, members of the family allegedly accused her of seeking to benefit from her husband’s estate, claiming that allowing her to remain with him would give her an opportunity to demand a share of his property.
The allegations have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the widow’s separation from her husband during his illness and the reported family disagreement.
Efforts to obtain comments from Mr Murray Omatseye and other members of the Omatseye family were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
However, the allegations, including the circumstances surrounding the officer’s medical care and the reported eviction, could not be independently verified.
The family members accused by the widow have yet to publicly respond to the claims.
