Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday handed over the newly constructed Ndokwa House in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, to the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), with a call for strengthened security around the facility.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, urged the NNU to prioritise the protection of the new edifice, stressing that their next meeting should focus heavily on security arrangements.

While underscoring the region’s strategic importance, the commissioner described Ndokwa nation as a critical gateway to the State capital, noting that “majority of Deltans cannot access Asaba without passing through Kwale.”

Hon. Angele commended the Ndokwa people for their solidarity and support to the present administration. He encouraged them to continue aligning with government policies and programmes to attract more development to the area.

“I want to advise NNU to always work in synergy with the people. Work with the government for the collective interest of your people. And I assure you that this is the starting point for Ndokwa region,” he said.

The construction of Ndokwa House began under former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2023, during the leadership of Gen. Mike Ndubisi, immediate past President-General of the NNU.

In his remarks, the NNU President-General, Chief Amechi Asuguni, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for sustaining and completing the project initiated by his predecessor.

He noted that the new house would serve as a centre for unity and progress for Ndokwa nation, stating key decisions would be taken in the facility.

Chief Asuguni also thanked God and appreciated the people of Ndokwa for their unwavering support. He acknowledged the role of Ndokwa stakeholders, stating that their guidance from consultation to negotiation and collaboration was “overwhelming.”

He reaffirmed the NNU’s commitment to work with all stakeholders to promote unity, development, and the collective aspirations of Ndokwa people.

According to him, the newly commissioned structure would serve as a central assembly point for both ongoing and future union activities.

Goodwill messages were presented by the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who was represented by Hon. Goddey Azum Mgbabego, Prince Emeka Osamuta, member representing Ndokwa East in the Delta State House of Assembly; immediate past NNU president general, Gen. Mike Ndubisi, and Prof. Julie Umukoro, immediate past NNU women leader.

On his part, the NNU spokesman, Hon. Justice Odanike, commended the state government for delivering the impactful project and appealed to Governor Oborevwori to “do more for Ndokwa nation.”

“I thank Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for this project. It’s a right step in right direction. This project has significant impact on Ndokwa people. At the same time, I appeal to the state government to do more for us,” said Odanike.

The highlights of the occasion were presentation of House key to Chief Asuguni by Hon. Angele, house toll and observation of one-minute silence in honour of Late (Dr.) Augustine Odili, popularly known as Atimo, who was said to have donated ten plots of land for the construction of Ndokwa House.
