Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to disclose what she described as the “real truth” behind her exclusion from the national team, accusing unnamed officials of misleading Nigerians about the circumstances surrounding her omission.
The striker, in a statement shared on social media, said she had maintained silence for several weeks out of professionalism and respect for the game but could no longer tolerate what she termed false narratives and misinformation regarding her absence from the squad.
Okoronkwo alleged that those responsible for the decision had failed to provide an honest explanation to the public and urged them to come clean.
“To those corrupt officials responsible for the decisions that led to my exclusion from the Super Falcons squad, why not tell Nigerians the real truth?” she wrote.
Okoronkwo’s comments have sparked fresh debate among football fans, with many awaiting clarification from the country’s football governing body over the circumstances that led to her exclusion from the national team.
The forward warned that she might be compelled to disclose her own account of events if the actual reasons for her omission are not made public.
“For weeks, I have remained silent out of respect, professionalism, and love for the game. However, I will not allow false narratives, speculation, and misinformation to continue spreading,” she stated.
“I urge those in charge to stop lying to Nigerians and tell them the real reasons I was excluded from the team. If the truth is not made known, I will have no choice but to share my own side of the story and expose everything that has happened behind closed doors.”
Neither the Nigeria Football Federation nor officials of the Super Falcons had issued an immediate response to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
