The newly inaugurated executive members of the Young Engineers Forum of Nigeria (YEFON), Asaba Chapter, have been urged to work as a team.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Asaba Branch, Engr. Ikechukwu Osunde, made the call in Asaba.
He spoke during the official inauguration of the new executive members of the forum in the Delta State capital.
Osunde said the importance of the engineering profession could not be overemphasised.
He urged the young engineers to develop professionally, ethically and truthfully to succeed in their chosen profession.
Also speaking, the Patroness of YEFON, Dr. Mrs. Juliet Aboloje, an engineer, said engineering transforms ideas into practical solutions.
Aboloje, who delivered the keynote address, urged young engineers to embrace innovation to make Nigeria safer and better.
She noted that several innovations already existed but challenged the engineers to develop better ways of improving lives.
The patroness urged young engineers to stop focusing solely on securing employment and instead consider creating jobs for others.
She said young engineers were expected to become innovators and contribute meaningfully to national development.
A guest speaker, Engr. (Prof.) Hilary Owamah, also urged young engineers to develop solutions to the numerous challenges facing the country.
Owamah spoke on the theme, “Engineering Innovation for Enhanced Security, Safety and Sustainable National Development.”
The theme also focused on empowering young engineers and advancing gender inclusion in the profession.
Owamah, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Delta State University, Abraka, urged Nigerians to embrace artificial intelligence.
He said artificial intelligence could be applied across various sectors, including monitoring situations and improving security.
He also advised young engineers to learn from people with practical experience beyond their university and polytechnic degrees.
The National Coordinator of YEFON, Engr. Ahmed Yusuf, said the programme’s theme highlighted engineering’s role in building a safer nation.
Yusuf, represented by Urherigho Emeka, said the future belonged to engineers prepared to innovate, collaborate and lead.
The pioneer Chairman of YEFON, Engr. (Comrade) Stanley Ogum, congratulated the new executive members on their successful inauguration.
Ogum urged the chairman to work peacefully with his executive and carry everyone along for greater development.
Earlier, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Engr. Raymond Nwajuonye, thanked God for the successful inauguration.
Nwajuonye said young engineers should focus on creating jobs rather than depending solely on employment opportunities.
He also advocated an inclusive future for the engineering profession, noting that women possessed enormous potential.
According to him, women can contribute significantly to engineering, science, technology and national development.
He said his administration would create opportunities for women to participate fully in engineering education.
Nwajuonye promised to work harmoniously with his team to move the forum to greater heights.
The programme featured the presentation of awards to individuals who had contributed to engineering development in Nigeria and beyond.
