2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed joy over the safe rescue of the abducted schoolchildren, describing their return as a development worthy of thanksgiving.
In a statement, Obi said he was greatly relieved and delighted by the children’s safe return, thanking all those whose tireless efforts contributed to securing their freedom, particularly security personnel and others who worked behind the scenes.
“I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he said.
While celebrating the successful rescue, Obi stressed that no child should ever be subjected to the trauma of abduction, noting that the recurring incidents of kidnapping, especially involving schoolchildren, highlight the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
He urged government at all levels to prioritise the protection of lives and property, insisting that ensuring the safety of citizens remains the foremost responsibility of any government.
According to him, Nigerian children deserve to pursue their education in a secure environment free from fear, violence and the threat of kidnapping.
Obi called for sustained efforts towards building a country where every child can attend school without the risk of abduction, adding that the rescue should serve as renewed motivation to improve security across the nation.
He also rejoiced with the rescued children, their families, their schools and all Nigerians over the successful outcome, concluding his message with his signature call for national renewal: “A new Nigeria is possible.”
