United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared that Washington was “not finished at all” with Iran, warning that the US military could soon launch a heavy strike on a suspected underground nuclear facility known as Pickaxe Mountain.
Trump made the remarks during a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House, where he insisted that the United States would maintain pressure on Tehran despite the extensive damage already inflicted on the country’s military and nuclear infrastructure.
According to the US President, Pickaxe Mountain, a deeply buried nuclear site near Natanz, remains a key target because Western intelligence agencies suspect Iran is constructing an undeclared uranium enrichment facility there.
“We’ll be hitting that area pretty soon, and very heavily,” Trump told reporters, adding that although he would not normally reveal potential military targets in advance, “there’s not a thing they can do about it.”
Trump argued that Iran’s current military and nuclear capabilities had already suffered severe setbacks, claiming the country would require between 20 and 25 years to recover if hostilities ceased immediately.
“If we left right now, it would take Iran 20, 25 years to rebuild. Okay, and we’re not finished at all… we’re not leaving right now,” he said.
The President’s comments came amid renewed tensions in the Middle East, following the resumption of hostilities between the United States and Iran two weeks ago.
Reports indicated that Iran intensified its military operations on Tuesday, with strikes affecting Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, raising concerns over a broader regional escalation.
The renewed conflict has heightened fears of instability across the Middle East, as both sides continue to exchange military actions despite growing international calls for restraint and diplomatic engagement.
Analysts say any attack on suspected underground nuclear facilities could further deepen the crisis and complicate efforts to revive diplomatic negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
