Tension has reportedly mounted in the business community of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State following allegations by a chieftain of the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Amb. Agbah Alex Tobore, that a truckload of his goods worth millions of naira was impounded and the mobile phones of his wife and business manager seized.
Tobore, who raised the alarm over the development, described the incident as the latest in a series of actions affecting his business operations, expressing concern over the safety of his investments.
He disclosed that his business premises had earlier been sealed over an allegation relating to the branding of his vehicle, adding that he was subsequently asked to make a payment in connection with the matter.
The businessman said the latest development had left him traumatised and worried about the future of his business.
He also referred to the arrival of two trailers at his premises, expressing uncertainty over the circumstances surrounding the developments.
Tobore appealed to the Delta State and Federal Governments, as well as relevant security agencies, to intervene and establish the facts surrounding the alleged impoundment of his truckload of goods and the reported seizure of the mobile phones.
He specifically sought clarification over the alleged seizure of a Samsung mobile phone belonging to his wife, Mrs Agbah, and another phone belonging to his business manager.
The NDC chieftain urged the authorities to investigate the incident and ensure that political differences did not lead to the harassment of individuals or interference with their lawful business activities.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Media Aide to the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Mr Ekete Efe, were unsuccessful.
Calls placed to his mobile telephone line were neither answered nor returned as of the time of filing this report.
The council’s position on the allegations could therefore not be ascertained.
