Ndokwa West Council Boss Halts Mediator From Making Herdsmen Vices Public

The Ndokwa West Local Government Area Chairman, Chief Goddey Obi-Nzete has faulted the member representing Delta North at the State Livestock Management Committee, Comr Mathew Ujene Ossai for making the activities of Fulani Herdsmen in the local government area public.

Mathew Ujene has been at the frontline mediating between the Fulani Herdsmen and farmers before his appointment by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as a Livestock Management Committee member without financial benefits.

The menace of Fulani Herdsmen in the state did not mitigate despite the signing of the open anti-grazing bill into law by the Delta State governor.

Herdsmen have been terrorizing Delta communities, kidnapping innocent citizens, and destroying farm crops without proper compensation.

Chief Obi-Nzete has, however, directed Ujene to avert reporting the activities of the herdsmen in the local government area on social media.

It was alleged that Chief Nzete gave the order through the local government secretary, Hon Augustine Okom to stop Livestock Committee members from posting such information on various Whatsapp groups, which he said a lot of people are seeing it.

It was suspected that the Ndokwa West local government Chairman was mandated by higher authorities to tackle the increasing rate of encroachment and collision between the herders and farmers as well as other vices in his area of coverage.

When contacted, the local government secretary, Hon Augustine Okom, denied knowledge of it, saying that such an order did not emanate from the local government council.
