Buhari Wants Stakeholders To Prioritize Women, Girls Empowerment

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged government, private sectors, traditional and religious leaders to incorporate measures that would enhance the empowerment of women and girls in the country.
He made this known in Abuja at the launch of a High-level Advisory Council on Nigeria ‘s Support for the economic and educational empowerment of women and adolescent girls.
The High-level advisory Council on Nigeria’s Support for women and Girls was meant to provide strategic guidance, policy support and monitoring of government and gender equality initiatives as well as advice the nation’s financial partners on critical areas of support for women and girls.
Consequently, the Federal Ministry’s of Women Affairs, Education and Finance, Budget and National planning a, Co-chairs would work together with state governments and other key players to prioritise areas where support are needed to accelerate gender equality in the country.
Strategic programmes the council would coordinate and monitor includes; the National Women’s Economic Empowerment, WEE, Policy Dialogue, Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE and the Nigeria for Women Project which are targeted at the empowerment of women and girls.
At the inauguration of the advisory council, President Muhammadu Buhari Charged them to create initiatives and strategies that would drive the economic empowerment, sustainable livelihood and education of Nigeran women and girls.
“ I want to Charge the Council to initially focus on driving women’s economic empowerment, especially in the areas of economic access, sustainable livelihood and education, including second chance education for women and girls.” He said.
The Minister of women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen explained that the council would rule out Multi sectorial technical working groups to support each of the priority programmes “ the Nigerian for Women Project aims to increase women’s voice and participation by improving their livelihood opportunities, over its life, the Nigeria for women project scale up will reach 3.9 million women who will benefit” she said
The Minister of education, Mal Adamu Adamu, represented by the Permanent secretary, Mr. David Andrew explained that the country secured a five hundred-million-dollar support from the world bank to implement the Adolescent Girls Initiatives for learning and empowerment AGILE project.
The World Bank Representative, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri said for the country to realize its mission of lifting 0ne hunderd million Nigerians from poverty it must sustainably ensure the economic and educational empowerment of women and children.
