Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has credited the achievements of his administration over the past three years to the grace, wisdom and mercy of God.

Speaking at the 2026 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held on Friday at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, the governor said the event was organised to appreciate God for His faithfulness as the administration marked its third anniversary in office.

Oborevwori said the state’s development strides were achieved through prudent management of resources without borrowing funds.

Addressing political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, clergy, and residents, the governor expressed gratitude to Deltans for their support since he assumed office on May 29, 2023, describing the journey as eventful, exciting and enlightening.

He noted that his administration had implemented people-oriented programmes and executed major infrastructure projects aimed at improving the living standards of citizens across the state.

“Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our sight. I remain eternally grateful to God for finding me worthy to serve the people of Delta State in this capacity,” he said.

The governor stated that despite challenges encountered during the period, his administration had overcome them through divine wisdom, sincerity of purpose and prudent financial management.

According to him, all contracts awarded by the government were backed by available funds, enabling the state to meet its obligations to contractors without taking loans.

“We are here to thank God for the wisdom to execute development projects all over the state without borrowing a kobo from anybody or bank. Every contract that we give out, the money is available. We have constantly discharged our obligations to our contractors,” he said.

Oborevwori also thanked God for the peace and security enjoyed in the state, describing peace as a critical factor for development and investment. He noted that Delta remained one of Nigeria’s leading oil-producing states and continued to attract investors because of its stable environment.

The governor commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining law and order and acknowledged the contributions of former governors, including James Ibori, Emmanuel Uduaghan and Ifeanyi Okowa, for laying foundations upon which his administration continues to build.

He also appreciated the support of Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, political appointees and other stakeholders.

The governor called for greater unity among Deltans and urged residents to continue supporting the government as it enters the final phase of its first tenure.

“Delta State is our home. We don’t have any other state. What is important is how we come together to build this state. With unity, Delta will continue to move forward and become an envy of other states,” he said.

In his sermon titled “Ever Increasing Progress,” renowned cleric Joshua Selman said lasting progress begins with acknowledging God and remaining connected to Him.

He commended Delta State’s tradition of setting aside a day annually to thank God and prayed for continued growth, prosperity and development in the state.

Selman outlined seven biblical principles for sustained progress, including abiding in Christ, avoiding distractions, pursuing knowledge and illumination, courage, humility, building strategic relationships and maintaining a lifestyle of thanksgiving.

He also praised Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to development and project delivery across the state, encouraging leaders and citizens to remain focused despite challenges and criticisms.

The event featured scripture reading by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme and praise ministrations by gospel ministers including Dunsin Oyekan, Moses Bliss, Asu Ekiye, Solomon Urete, M & Revelation, Jerry Ekpekuro and Solo Kings.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the cutting of the anniversary cake to commemorate the administration’s three years in office.

Dignitaries at the event included former governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Emomotimi Guwor, Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone, as well as members of the House of Representatives, including Francis Waive, Jonathan Ukodhiko and Nnamdi Ezechi.
