20 killed, Scores Injured As Suspected Cultists Invade Burial Ceremony In Anambra

No fewer than twenty persons were killed on Saturday February 26, 2022 as suspected cult members invaded a burial ceremony in Ebenebe at Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Also, more than fifty persons sustained gunshot various degree of injuries as yet to be ascertained gunmen opened fire on the victims.
Score of victims lay on the ground in their pool of blood in a video clip that went viral on social media.

Africa Investigative Magazine learned that as the corpse was laid in state, suspected cultists entered the scene and began to shoot on sight.
An audio clip that accompanied the video footage said that the deceased was shot dead about two weeks ago, but it was not clear if he was a cultist.
It said, “Today February 22, 2022 was the burial ceremony of a one man that was shot dead some weeks ago. I don’t know if he was a cultist or not. I thought he was shot dead by policemen.

“Just as the ceremony was about to commence proper, I don’t know if they were a rival cult or his cult members that came to the place and were shooting at everybody.
“Between nineteen to twenty people were confirmed dead, while more than fifty people sustained gunshot injuries, and were receiving treatment at various hospitals.
Sources who spoke with Africa Investigative Magazine alleged that the deceased was a cultist.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying that it was a case of cult reprisal attack.
According to the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the burial was going on when some people suspected to be cultist members invaded the area and started shooting.
He said: “I do not have details of casualties now but I will keep you informed once the picture becomes clear.
