The people of Ofuoma community in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, has applauded one of its illustrious sons, Chief (Dr.) Isaac Akpoveta, following his official decoration as a United Nations POLAC Peace Ambassador.
The event, which took place at his Ofuoma residence marked a major milestone in Dr. Akpoveta’s long-standing humanitarian and community development journey.
Dr. Akpoveta was also conferred with several distinguished recognitions, including the Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) and his appointment as Patron of UN-POLAC for the South-South region, honours that further cement his influence in peace advocacy and social impact.
The well-attended ceremony brought together traditional rulers, UN-POLAC officials, academics, community leaders, family members, and friends who gathered to celebrate the philanthropist’s achievements and contributions to society.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Akpoveta expressed deep gratitude for the honours, describing them as a renewed call to greater service, responsibility, and commitment to humanity.
He added that the recognitions align strongly with his core values of justice, peace, and inclusive development.
He noted that the UN-POLAC honour reinforces his belief that “every life matters, and every human being deserves dignity, equity, and hope,” adding that peaceful societies create the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Highlighting the importance of community-led peace efforts, Dr. Akpoveta stressed that conflict leaves the most vulnerable exposed. “When trouble comes, the vulnerable cannot run. The rich may escape, but the elderly, the disabled, and the underserved have nowhere to go. This is why we must create peace,” he stated.
He described the raising of the UN-POLAC flag in Ofuoma as more than ceremonial, calling it a symbol of the community’s collective pledge to remain a hub for peace-building, compassion, and development-driven initiatives.
Dr. Akpoveta dedicated his new honours to vulnerable groups across Delta State, reaffirming his commitment to philanthropy, capacity building, and social empowerment programs.
Speaking on behalf of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Olorogun Peter Akpofure praised the honouree as “a worthy son of our great land” whose accomplishments continue to enhance the reputation of the Ughelli people both nationally and internationally.
Akpofure recalled accompanying Dr. Akpoveta to several award ceremonies within and outside Nigeria, including a recent recognition in Rwanda, stating that his profile “always commands admiration” whenever it is presented.
He noted that Dr. Akpoveta holds two chieftaincy titles, including the prestigious Royal Physician of the Kingdom, roles in which he has demonstrated excellence, courage, intellect, and humility.
Describing him as “a man of strength and dedication,” Akpofure said Dr. Akpoveta approaches every responsibility with exceptional diligence, a quality that has distinguished him across professional and humanitarian spaces.
As Director-General of the Health Contribution Scheme, Dr. Akpoveta was credited with leading Delta State to achieve first position in a recent national health initiative, a feat Akpofure described as “another testament to his expertise and commitment to public service.”
He further commended the dignitaries and guests who attended the ceremony, noting that their presence underscored the collective pride and support Dr. Akpoveta enjoys from across the country.
Akpofure assured the honouree that the entire Ughelli Kingdom takes great pride in his achievements, adding that the Ovie of Ughelli would, upon arrival, further convey the monarch’s appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the kingdom.
The highlights of the occasion were official decoration of Dr. Akpoveta as the United Nations POLAC Peace Ambassador, goodwill messages and hoisting of UN Polac flag.
