The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and the recovered a firearm, as well as a suspected stolen vehicle conveying vandalised items in separate operations across the state.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, noted that the achievements were part of sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements through proactive policing.
According to the statement, operatives of the Agbor Division, while on anti-crime patrol at College Junction, Agbor, on March 31, 2026, intercepted two suspects identified as Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28, who were riding a motorcycle.
The police said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting officers but were swiftly pursued and apprehended. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of the Eiye confraternity and are linked to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents in the area. The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and are currently in custody.
The Command added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a separate operation, the police recovered a suspected stolen vehicle loaded with vandalised items in Sapele.
The statement noted that on March 30, 2026, operatives of the Sapele Division acted on credible information from a concerned citizen who reported sighting a Toyota Sienna bus conveying suspected vandalised materials, including iron cuts and a gas cylinder.
Upon arrival at the scene, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush on sighting the police. The vehicle was subsequently recovered and taken to the station.
Police said preliminary investigations have commenced, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for their swift response, the state police commissioner, Yemi John Oyeniyi, urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information to aid crime-fighting efforts.
He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
