The Ughelli-Udu Grassroots Network (UGN), a political pressure group within the APC, has withdrawn its support for Ambassador Obukomena Ibru and declared Ambassador Frank Ossai as its preferred candidate for the Ughelli-Udu Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
This decision was reached at the group’s meeting held on Wednesday, April 16, 2026, where members reviewed key political developments and resolved to support what they described as a “better alternative” for the constituency.
UGN also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of the current representative, Rt. Hon. Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, stating that his two terms in office have not met the expectations of the people.
The group firmly opposed any attempt by Waive to seek a third term, insisting that two terms should be enough.
According to the communique, the group believes leadership should be based on proven performance, which it claims is lacking in the current representation. It added that constituents are eager for a change in 2027.
The group described Ambassador Frank Ossai, an Orogun-born founding member of the APC, as a credible and capable choice.
It noted that despite not holding public office, Ossai has contributed to grassroots development and party growth across the constituency.
UGN further criticized some clergy members who recently endorsed Waive for a third term, describing their actions as inappropriate and urging religious leaders to remain neutral in political matters.
The group called on APC members, leaders, and stakeholders in Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu to rally behind Ossai and support his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.
UGN said it has already begun mobilization and sensitization efforts within the party and beyond to ensure Ossai’s victory in both the primaries and the 2027 general elections.
